My work is usually narrative at heart because I want my art to tell a story – capturing a moment in time like a single frame in a movie. What happened before that moment or what will happen after is left to the viewer. The subject may be an observer as well, watching something or someone else. What captures their interest can tell us much about who they are and why they are there.
My narratives are personal statements. I want them to have emotional content, depicting people, events, and locations that are familiar and significant.
I paint. I draw. I photograph. I split my time between San Francisco and West Sonoma County, so my work is filled with people and views of both.
I dropped out of the art world several times to follow other paths including technical and academic pursuits. But the creative world kept calling and I'd make journeys back. I had the luxury of completing a three-year program in color theory and design at the Rudolph Schaeffer School of (Rhythmo-Chromatic) Design in San Francisco.
After that sabbatical I returned to the technical and finance world full time. When I started to experience vision and dexterity issues, I made the decision to concentrate on art full time.
Today, I am part of a talented group of artists who call themselves The 203 Collective. There are 13 of us and many of us have been painting together for 10 years.
